FAQ
Is there a fee?
Student Counseling Services are provided to all UMMC students free of charge, regardless of how many times you visit. However, we do not provide free treatment to any visiting students who are, for example, doing a rotation at UMMC.
What should I expect during my first visit?
The main goal of your first visit is for your counselor to understand the reasons you have made your appointment and what goals you hope to accomplish during your visits. This initial visit is mainly for your counselor to get to know you better and the visits to follow will be more therapeutic in nature. Please arrive 30 minutes early to fill out the necessary paperwork.
Who can use Student Counseling Services?
All UMMC students, regardless of their school (School of Medicine, School of Nursing, etc.) are eligible to use our services.
Can I be prescribed medication?
Student Counseling Services does not prescribe medications.
Do you provide ADHD evaluations?
We do not provide ADHD evaluations at SCS. If this is something you are interested in, your counselor can work with you to find a resource for this in the community.
